Back to School

11 August 2017

Although the kids are only just off for their summer holidays, we are already planning ahead and thinking of the new season.

The start of the new academic year calls for an injection of positivity and of course a shiny new desk revamp. Stationary doesn’t guarantee success but it’s a jolly good place to start.

We believe the key to a happy and enjoyable work life is positivity and motivation, but we know that from time to time everyone can feel these aspects are missing from 9 to 5.

We want to help! Below are our top tips to help bring that positivity back into the office and beat those blues you may be suffering from.

Most of us use post–it notes, pens, notebooks, pencil cases and everything in between but who says they have to be dull and boring. You’ve got to use them every day so they might as well bring you a little joy right? We try to give all of our stationery a little life with bright colours and cheery messages that are sure to brighten up your day.

Considering we spend on average 40 hours per week at work, we feel there are some simple steps that can be made to make our office space more colourful, fun and productive. From inspirational quotes and family photos to indoor plants and artwork.

You have legs use them

Studies have found that sedentary jobs negatively affect our health, so take any opportunity to get up and stretch those legs!

  • Stand up and move around every 20 minutes
  • Stretch at your desk and get the blood pumping
  • Eat your lunch at a high table so you have to stand
  • Give your eyes a rest
  • Take your snacks to the kitchen

Become a list maker

There are three benefits to the simple act of drawing up a list of your top priority task.

  • Writing makes your memory’s job easier
  • Planning turns ideas into concrete work
  • It helps you work through little jobs whilst other big ones come to you throughout the day

It doesn’t have to be well organised and some of the items on it will fall through the gaps, but it allows you to step out of the normal flow of things. That way, you’ll be able to look past whatever may have been getting in your way before.

Get your hands on a patterned background wallpaper to beautify your tech. We believe that you should make your space your own and make it beautiful. If you love our prints and patterns in real life why not make your tech pretty and add one to your device.

On your break take every opportunity you can to go outside, get some fresh air and detach yourself from work for that short time. We know the UK summers are unpredictable but when there is no rain you have no excuse.

You spend most of your week with them, so causing problems is something to avoid. Keep a positive disposition and treat others how you’d like to be treated. If that fails keep a stash of sweets and other goodies at your desk, although not great for your waistline, your colleagues will turn to you in their sugary hour of need.

Tidy up your desk when you leave so that you start the next day fresh and clutter free. Tired of having sticky-notes everywhere? Upload the productivity app Wunderlist to your phone or desktop, where you can set reminders and assign tasks.
